🚪 The Story Behind the Forgotten Gate to God's Cathedral
Some stories take years to unfold.
This one took more than 15.
More than 15 years ago, a friend asked if we could store an old iron gate after selling his home. We agreed, tucked it away, and over the years I honestly forgot all about it.
Then, just recently, I felt it belonged at the entrance to God's Cathedral.
The only problem was that I didn't even know where the gate was anymore.
As I searched around the farm, little pieces of the project began falling into place. I found the gate, discovered a piece of pipe that turned out to be exactly what I needed, and with the help of our grandnephew, Gage, we loaded everything into the Bobcat and headed for God's Cathedral.
Our first thought was to install the gate at the wider entrance, but it simply didn't look right. So we carried it farther into the narrow passage between the towering moss-covered boulders.
The moment we held it in place, we knew.
It looked as though it had always belonged there.
Before we installed the gate, I even thought about painting it.
In the end, I decided not to.
I didn't want it to look brand new or draw attention to itself. I wanted it to feel as though it had always been part of God's Cathedral Maryland. Over time, nature will continue to do what it does best. The gate will weather, blend even more into the landscape, and quietly welcome guests without taking away from the beauty surrounding it.
Today, every guest who walks through the Forgotten Gate to God's Cathedral begins a journey into one of the most peaceful places at Timber Valley Farm Barn Rental. My hope is that, for just a little while, they leave the busyness of life behind and experience the quiet beauty God has created here.
